Title
Study into the Potential Unconventional Gas Resource in Wales
|
2.2
|
Description of the goods or services required
The Welsh Government wishes to procure a study to determine the areas in Wales where prospective development of unconventional gas – particularly shale gas and coal bed methane - might take place. The aim of this study will be to;
• Define the range of onshore and immediately offshore unconventional gas resource that might exist in Wales, including shale gas and coal bed methane; the geographical locations of those resources and, if available, estimates of gas-initially-in-place.
• Describe the methods of unconventional gas working and the potential concerns attributed to the technology used in exploring and developing those resources, including hydraulic fracturing.
• Evaluate the potential impact of resource exploration and development in the identified areas in relation to environmental, social and public health impacts - to include seismic risk, groundwater contamination, water resources and supply impacts, effluent management and the release of radon.
• Describe any limitations of existing knowledge or evidence that might need to be addressed prior to further exploration or development of the resource in the identified locations.
• Produce conclusions and a summary report for the Welsh Government that sets out the results of the study.
