Abstract

Tywi Gateway Project Walled Kitchen Garden – Entrance Gates Commission. The Tywi Gateway Project is seeking tender submissions for the design, manufacture and installation of a decorative iron gate and appropriate post / fittings for an 18th century listed Walled Kitchen Garden at the Bishop’s Park, Abergwili, Carmarthen. Its installation will be part of the first phase of restoration works at the Bishop’s Park and will help to attract public interest in the project. For the purpose of the tender costings the gate opening is arched and edged / faced with brick with a stone core. It is approx 112cm wide by 212cm high at its highest point. There are no remains of any previous gate or gate fittings and fixings. The gate will need to be lockable and all fittings will be subject to the conservation and planning approval. The tender submission needs to reflect the following:- Design – the maker will be expected to provide detailed drawings of their proposed design or designs. The design will need to be practical and secure and reflect the spirit of the location, its use and the site’s heritage, but also be attractive to a contemporary audience. It will also incorporate the coat of arms of the Diocese of St David’s. Manufacture – the maker to provide details of the manufacture process and timescales for manufacture, finishing and installation. It will be the responsibility of the successful maker to measure the site of the proposed gates to ensure correct fitting. Finishing – the gate to be finished with a zinc application – either galvanized or hot zinc spray before being painted in black. Installation – the gates and all gate fittings to be installed by the maker in line with site requirements. Aftercare – maker to provide detailed aftercare guidance. The maker to provide a full CV with examples of previous work. To view the location of the proposed gate there is restricted site access at any time full site access is by appointment only. A similar gate in the walled gardens will be needed later and expressions of interest are invited although no commitments in that regard can be entered into at this stage.

Walled Kitchen Garden – Entrance Gates Commission.

The Tywi Gateway Project is seeking tender submissions for the design, manufacture and installation of a decorative iron gate and appropriate post / fittings for an 18th century listed Walled Kitchen Garden at the Bishop’s Park, Abergwili, Carmarthen. Its installation will be part of the first phase of restoration works at the Bishop’s Park and will help to attract public interest in the project.

For the purpose of the tender costings the gate opening is arched and edged / faced with brick with a stone core. It is approx 112cm wide by 212cm high at its highest point. A similar gate in the walled gardens will be needed later and expressions of interest are invited although no commitments in that regard can be entered into at this stage.
