Minimum standards and qualification required
The successful consultant will have knowledge and experience of coastal and marine habitats and species. An understanding of the designation and role of SINC’s / Wildlife Sites would also be helpful.
You should feel comfortable with using GIS to generate new candidate SINC site boundaries and for designating areas for further survey as well as collate existing GIS layers. Outputs will be in QGIS or ArcGIS.
Working in partnership will be particularly important. This is a collaborative process in gathering data, discussing criteria and potential SINC areas for designation. Close working will be required with Natural Resources Wales, the Vale of Glamorgan Council, the Wildlife Trust for South and West Wales, the Severn Estuary Partnership, the South East Wales Biological Records Centre and organisations like Marine Conservation Society, Seawatch Foundation and Whale and Dolphin Conservation.
A knowledge of nature conservation in Wales and the relevant legislation will be beneficial.
Consultancies that can make a quick start on this would be preferred.
Proposals MUST include a timetable of activity and delineate milestones, with dates, for the delivery of the project outputs below. In addition there will be a start up meeting and interim meetings with the Vale Coastal Project Steering Group.
