Description of the contract
The hosting, design, development and support work on the portal is being outsourced during 2015-16.The National Library of Wales will lead on the procurement of a new supplier.
NLW will continue to develop its provision of online resources and will lead on the creation of the ‘National Digital Library Service’ (NDLS). It is envisaged that this will be clearly signposted and delineated within the portal. Content for the news pages, the staff toolkit and library campaigns will continue to be provided by the external audience development team based in Wrexham. Other content will be provided by other external providers or by the National Library of Wales.
The successful company will need to replicate all of the current content, as the National Library of Wales will not be able to migrate the content. In addition to this, we will need an app that includes the key functions of ‘Find a book’, ‘Find a library’, link to the new National Digital Library Service, read book reviews, etc.
The refreshed Portal will be central to the success of the new National Digital Library Service and will also be a means of raising the profile of libraries in Wales, engaging with new audiences, communicating with current library members and assisting library staff in their professional activities.
The National Digital Library Service will be a key feature on the website and will bring together some of the existing online resources already available via the website along with additional online resources which will enhance the offer.
The current CMS uses Typo3, and the portal also has some Wordpress elements (see Doc C) but a more user-friendly CMS would be preferred. This will enable the external audience development team to upload some of the content themselves.
We are looking for a modern, fresh, dynamic website. We would like to improve the UX (user experience) and increase the online social engagement, re-creating the trusted, offline library experience in a new online public space.
The audience is both the public and library staff across Wales. The website functions not only as a virtual library e.g. access links to free e-books and e-magazines, search for a book across all Welsh library catalogues, but also as a place to find out about library campaigns and library news.,
