Short description of the contract or purchase(s)
‘Active Travel’ refers to a form of transport that engages the individual in physical activity e.g. walking, cycling and scooting. The Active Travel (Wales) Act 2013, section 10, states there is a duty on the Welsh Ministers and Local Authorities to ‘exercise functions to promote active travel’. The Welsh Government wishes to engage a supplier to provide active travel promotion and engagement in schools in Wales, to meet this duty in the Active Travel (Wales) Act 2013.
The objective of the contract will be:
- To raise awareness among children, staff, parents and governors on the benefits of active travel.
- To engage children in activities encouraging and enabling uptake of active travel.
- To work closely with school staff to develop school champions with specific roles to promote active travel.
- To create a whole school culture of active travel within project schools that can be sustained over time.
- To communicate the benefits of active travel and encourage its uptake through a variety of channels to the wider community.
The aims of the contract will be:
- To increase the number of children and young people regularly travelling actively to school.
- To give children the confidence, enthusiasm and skills to travel actively and safely to school.
- To give teachers, parents and governors the tools and skills to promote and support active travel within their school and the wider community.

The value range stated within this contract notice is the total value range for the entire contract period including the extension period. The estimated value range per annum of this contract is 192,500 GBP - 217,250 GBP (excluding VAT). |
