Short description of the contract or purchase(s)
The University is seeking tenders for the provision of a range of sports clothing and ancillary sports items to the Cardiff School of Sport and Cardiff Met Sport.
Clothing is required for academic staff, sports facility staff and undergraduate students and for the children who attend the University’s various junior academies. The university provides a range of clothing for its sports staff and provides a core kit list for each of the first year students in the Cardiff School of Sport.
The clothing must meet the differing requirements of these user groups. These will differ in terms of the colour, quality, performance attributes and pricing. The clothing will need to be embroidered with the various logos associated with the Cardiff School of Sport and Cardiff Met Sport and where appropriate, will also be required in male and female fittings.
The student clothing must be hardwearing and of a high technical standard in terms of factors such as fit and performance enhancement across a range of conditions. It must also be available in a range of competitive price points whilst appealing to the young student market that is particularly brand/image conscious
The student intake does vary each year and we are unable to guarantee future volumes as this does depend upon recruitment but the university normally supplies a core list to approx. 750 students. The core list comprises two t-shirts, shorts, and a “hoodie” and tracksuit trousers.
The staff kit requirement is fewer in numbers and is replaced usually either annually or bi-annually and to new staff.
The kit for the Cardiff Met junior academies is purchased directly by the parents of the academy members and is not provided by the university. The academies currently have some 2500 members and academy members have the option to buy kit but it is only compulsory to the football coaching centres (approx. 140 children) and future ordering volumes cannot be guaranteed. The university recommends a core list of items for each academy and the supplier must be able to provide a kit list that is competitively priced for parents yet hardwearing. The university will allow the supplier to market the kit list to prospective parents.
As part of this contract the supplier will be expected to provide an on-site presence in the University in the supply and returns / exchange of clothing to our first year students during induction week in September and as an on-going presence in the small shop space available in the National Indoor Athletic Centre (NIAC). The successful supplier must also provide a bespoke internet ordering and payment service on their web site.
The peak ordering demand will be in late August and September when the new students and join the University. There will also be high demand for junior academy clothing between September and December. The supplier will be expected to issue the core kit list to students during the University’s enrolment week and manage a fluctuating demand for the rest of the year. The operational hours of the shop will need to reflect this differing demand patterns. The shop will also form the focal point of trade with the various academies, both in terms of an ordering point and delivery and sales presence, although direct delivery to purchasers home addresses is acceptable.
